The Great Unknown

ship-at-sea.jpgThe exemplary man, the hero, is excited by the unknown. He hears the call and responds, not knowing where the journey will take him or what obstacles he will meet along the way.” –Sam Keen

The unknown is not viewed by the average person as “Great”.  Usually “Scary” is a better word. Most of us want to know what’s coming so that we can prepare for it with the “tools” we are comfortable with. Blurry journeys often cause fear.  To change the perspective to one of excitement of the unknown that lies ahead–that is the spirit of the adventurer, who goes in with one key tool: the faith in the One Who can equip him/her to handle and thrive in whatever comes along the way.

The Power of a Word of Blessing

smiling-mouth.jpgKind words are jewels that live in the heart and soul and remain as blessed memories years after they have been spoken.”  –Marvea Johnson

We have no idea the far-reaching power of our words. We can make someone’s day by a thoughtful, specific, well-timed positive comment or compliment that goes down deep into their spirit and warms their insides.  This can start a chain-reaction as that person hopefully pours a blessing of words into someone he/she then sees, and encourages. Some people have saved encouraging letters for years–a gift that keeps on giving!

Time to Think

thinking-person.jpgGood plans shape good decisions. That’s why good planning helps to make elusive dreams come true.”  –Lester Bittell

How much time do you carve out to think, reflect, dream, and plan?  The average person I’ve surveyed says that he/she does not make this time.  Without this set-athink time, we merely ride the wave of our days, continue in ruts or preconceived notions, and limit the potential inside us for great accomplishments for God.

Touching, Knowing, Loving, Healing

Posted in Journal Musings by paul.casey on the January 24th, 2007

We can only heal what we love.  We can only love what we know. We can only know what we touch.”  –Sam Keen

How high-touch are you? Are you close enough to people’s lives to hear their deepest heart longings and see their real needs?  Only then can we love people well, and offer ourselves as “wounded healers” in their lives.  The opposite: being distant, superficial, myopic, self-focused, and unaware–leading to lack of impactful relationships in life.

Stagnant or Flowing?

You cannot steer a parked car.”  –Howard Hendricks

One must start his/her car (make the decision to grow) and put it in gear (set one’s self up for progress) in order to steer in a direction toward fulfillment and joy.

How Teachable are You?

Posted in Journal Musings by paul.casey on the January 2nd, 2007

We hear with our hearts, or not at all, and not unless we are willing to be enchanted, inspirited, encouraged, and engaged.”  –Sam Keen

How willing are you to go to new levels of engagement/learning/existing vs. staying where you are at? Listen with your heart more and your mind less.
